We all have times when we feel tired, sluggish and unmotivated which can really impact on our work and study. When we feel like this, it can be hard to stay productive and motivated which is why many people turn to essential oils to help boost concentration, focus and memory function.
How Essential Oils Work
Essential oils aren’t just reserved for natural and herbal medicine lovers, they are now widely embraced throughout western medicine due to their many proven benefits.
High grade essential oils contain chemical compounds called ‘terpenes’ which are a class of organic compound found in plants, giving them their scent and flavour. They are absorbed by the body through the nose or lungs, and once they reach the brain, transmit signals to let the brain know you are smelling something. This opens pathways through the limbic system which is directly linked to your ‘fight or flight’ response, which causes your brain to release chemicals to enhance/affect your mood, concentration and memory.
Essential Oils for Study
Peppermint: great for waking up your mind, improving memory and focus, and calming the nerves.
Rosemary: commonly used for helping treat dementia, rosemary oil improves cognitive performance and mood, and enhances memory.
Sage: proven to enhance immediate word recall, aids in the function of neurotransmitters and wakes up sleepy parts of the brain.
Basil: great for sharpening the mind, improving memory and increasing concentration and focus.
